Putigna the First to Re-Sign for 2020-21
The Pride finally have dipped into the free agency pool for the 2020-21 season, re-signing All-Star forward Christina Putigna as they begin to shape their roster post-COVID-19.
The Grimsby, Ontario native and Providence College alumna had an outstanding rookie season, showing tremendous chemistry with fellow rookie Tori Sullivan and League Co-MVP Jillian Dempsey en-route to 8 goals and 21 assists for 29 points in 24 games. That mark was the most for a Canadian-born player in league history.
"My experience in my rookie season was unbelievable," said Putigna in the league's official press release. "I’ve gotten the opportunity to play alongside some of the best names in hockey, grow and develop my game, and take part in some really special experiences. We have a lot of exciting things coming for the Pride and our fans, and I’m really humbled to be part of such a great organization."
Putigna quickly became a fan favorite in Boston not only for her outstanding play on the ice, but for her level of engagement and interaction with young fans. She became the star of the Pride's social media feeds along with linemate and partner in crime Tori Sullivan, and routinely went out of her way to meet and chat with young fans. Her stellar season was good for 3rd on the team in scoring and 2nd in assists. Putigna buried a goal in the semifinals against Connecticut this season, and is eagerly awaiting her first chance at the Isobel Cup when the season is finally able to resume. Stay tuned to Pride Diehards for more free agency coverage, as we expect many more announcements like this in the next few weeks.
