Onto the next as they say.

At 9:00 EST the PWHL announced Danielle Marmer as the first General Manager in Boston PWHL history. Thus, the new era in Boston Women’s Hockey begins.

Before being tasked with building a new roster for hockey fans in Boston to root for, Marmer started her journey at Quinnipiac. Playing for one of the winningest teams in program history, post-graduation she would return to her alma mater as the Head of Player Development.

Prior to her time coaching at Qunnipiac, she also coached Connecticut College’s Women’s Hockey team. Marmer is no stranger to Boston, however. She spent last season as a Player Development and Scouting Assistant for the Boston Bruins. Becoming the first woman to fulfill an on-ice role within the organization.

Now, all eyes are on her for her first shot at GM. Taking over in a historic Women’s Ice Hockey city with banners to its name. While the position may be new, and she may be the first to fill it, she steps in with a legacy to uphold.

That legacy starts on draft day. With the third overall pick in the PWHL Draft, the Boston PWHL Team has a chance to benefit from the snake format. Marmer will have the opportunity to add three free agents before the draft, then take middle picks into every round.

Calling it a “proven hockey city.” And a “championship city,” was the best case scenario to hear. Acknowledging the past iterations of women’s hockey as well as the men’s champions that have built Boston’s championship culture.

Stating she’s “determined to honor the legacy” the Blades and Pride left before.

As for head coaching, she’s looking for a collaborative effort with a yes already on the table to help build out this staff.

An honored and humbled leader steps into the shoes that Maddie Rigsby, Danielle Larouco, Karilyn Pilch once held. With it comes the extreme challenges her predecessors faced, building a championship team with the culture Boston fans expect.

Danielle Marmer seems ready to step into this world and lead Boston to the new promised land. I expect great things from her this season as she looks to sign her first three free agents in the coming days.

Things are looking up in Boston.
