Twitter Reacts to Charlie McAvoy’s Norris Snub
Alright, let’s take a look at the last 48 hours in the Boston Bruins organization.
They lose Game 5 and now face elimination in Game 6.
Bruce Cassidy holds the officials accountable but gets a $25,000 fine for it.
Nick Ritchie receives a $5,000 fine for an elbow that was not called a penalty on the ice.
and…Charlie McAvoy has been snubbed and not named a finalist for the James Norris Trophy for best defenseman.
What. In. The. [Redacted]. Is. Going. On.
Don’t get me wrong - this isn’t to say that the announced finalists consisting of Adam Fox, Victor Hedman, and Cale Makar don’t deserve to be in the conversation - but there’s certainly an argument to be made that McAvoy deserves to be a finalist rather than at least one OR two of the previously mentioned names.
If you’re looking at point totals, then perhaps McAvoy isn’t a finalist. That being said, the criteria of being eligible to contend for the Norris trophy isn’t point production, it’s a "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position".
I’m sure Twitter will react rationally to this news, right? Let’s see:
The Boston Bruins will face the New York Saints (Islanders) tonight at 7:30 in an elimination game. It’s do or die for the Bruins.
