On February 21, 2020, the Bruins laced up against the Calgary Flames to kick off the first west coast swing of the season.

Earlier in the day, the B's traded David Backes, a 2020 first round draft pick and Axel Andersson to Anaheim for Ondrej Kase. The Bruins were able to trade Backes while only having to keep 25% of his salary. Kase has been injured on and off but will join the team on Monday for a full practice.

The first five minutes of the game were crazy! 20 seconds into the first, Calgary scored on their third shot of the game. Less than two minutes later, the Flames struck again. Not even half a minute later, Patrice Bergeron brought the deficit back to one. The assists were earned by David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy. Then, Calgary scored again a minute later to go up 3-1. "Not the start you want as a team," Bergeron shared post game. "But I thought we showed some great resilience."

With more than seven minutes gone in the game, Bergeron potted his second of the night! His hand-eye coordination in the first half of the period had been stellar.

Two minutes later, Matt Grzelcyk was whistled two minutes for elbowing Tobias Rieder. The Bruins did a great job to kill the penalty. The Bruins had several other fantastic opportunities before Charlie Coyle scored with more than seven minutes to go to tie the game. "I thought we kept it simple," Karson Kuhlman, who got one of the assists, shared. "It was hectic, but we got back into it."

The rest of the period was very back and forth with each team earning several great chances.

Less than a minute into the second, Brad Marchand scored to put the B's up by one. Brandon Carlo and Torey Krug earned the assists.

The game continued to be back and forth after the goal from Marchand. With 10 minutes gone in the second, Jeremy Lauzon and Matthew Tkachuk went to the box for fighting. The rest of the second period was pretty quiet.

Within the first five minutes of the third, the first line notched several opportunities. The puck, for the most part, was in the offensive zone and a number of shots were taken by players in Bruins sweaters. With a little more than 14 minutes to go in the game, Bergeron was called for a trip. Luckily, the penalty killers got the job done.

The Bruins ended the night with a 4-3 win over the Flames. On to the next against Vancouver.
